Attendance
Maintaining regular attendance is really important to us here at Bents Green School, and it is our expectation that every child will attend every day. The school day starts at 8.55am and finishes at 3.30pm.
If your child has difficulties in attending school we will engage with you as a family to support you. Please contact school if you are struggling with your child attending school.
Reporting Absences
All absences from school must be reported to us by the parent/carer. We cannot accept messages passed on by Transport escorts.
If your child will not be attending school due to illness:
Please notify the school before 9.30am, preferably by sending a text via the MyEd App or by calling your child's designated site, stating the nature of the illness/absence and the expected length of absence. Please also notify SEN Transport so they can cancel your child’s transport.
If you are worried that your child might be too ill to come to school, please use this link to help: Is my child too ill for school? - NHS (www.nhs.uk)
If your child is ill please keep them at home to prevent the spread of contagious illness. In the event of sickness or diarrhoea, please keep your child away from school for 48 hours. If your child is taken ill in school our policy is to contact you by telephone, so that you can collect your child and take them home.
If your child will not be attending school due to medical, dental or any other pre-arranged appointments:
Please notify the school at least one week in advance of appointments by either call, texting via the MyEd App, or by emailing: enquiries@bentsgreen.sheffield.sch.uk. Proof of appointment will need to be provided.
Requesting for term-time leave:
Any request for term time leave must be made in writing 20 days in advance. Bents Green School does not authorise leave during term time unless there are exceptional circumstances.

Adverse Weather Guidance
In the event of adverse weather, the following guidance for school closures will be implemented.
School Closures Procedures:
In the event of a forecast of adverse weather, Bents Green may take action early and make a decision to open the school later the following day. This is to reduce the risk to student safety during their commute to school. This decision will be communicated to parents/carers via text and Email.
In the event of adverse weather, please see below the procedures in place for full and partial school closures at each site.
