Year 9 and Year 10
Students in Y9 and Y10 are taught in vertical groups. Students are grouped based upon their social, emotional and academic needs. Phase 4 classes have a lead tutor who provides pastoral support for the class and delivers PSHE and core skills lessons. Phase 4 classes follow a ‘secondary’ curriculum, accessing different lessons taught by specialist teachers. English and Maths is taught in ability groups, led by an English and Maths specialist and all students begin accredited courses. Science, PE, Food Technology and Forest Schools are all delivered by subject specialists. Preparation for Adulthood is a full morning for all phase 4 classes. This allows greater opportunities to support transition to post 16 providers or travel further to promote independence in the community. Enrichment opportunities are provided weekly, allowing students choice in exploring new curriculum areas.
Enrichment is ‘non-qualification activity to improve student employability skills and enable them to participate in other activity of value which does not necessarily lead to qualifications but enables them to progress’ (Ofsted). Enrichment Options are designed to link to student interests but also expand interests. Enrichment options take place one afternoon a week and activities are designed to be engaging and motivating; they are about having fun and creating lasting memories.
