Sheffield Autistic Society

The Sheffield Autistic Society is a local charity for people with autism (including Asperger syndrome) and their families. They provide support and information, and they campaign for a better world for Sheffield people – children, young persons and adults – with autism and Asperger syndrome.

 

Sheffield Parent Carer Forum

An independent group of parents and carers of children and young people (0-25) with disabilities and special educational needs. Their main aim is to ensure the needs of children are met. They bring together parent carers from across Sheffield to provide mutual support, exchange information, and influence policy and practice. They have over 1,700 members.

 

 

Sheffield Mencap & Gateway

Sheffield Mencap and Gateway was established in 1951 by parents of children with learning disabilities who wanted a better life for their children. Now running for over 60 years, Sheffield Mencap and Gateway now provides support for over 300 adults and children with learning disabilities and their families and carers in Sheffield.

Sheffield Futures exists to provide those opportunities: to help everyone make good life choices. Sheffield Futures is here for as long as it takes, at what ever stage in someone’s life: from the big problems to the small stuff. Our approach is about prevention, education, support when it’s needed, practical help that changes lives and builds better communities. 

 

 

Within Reach

Within Reach is an independent, registered charity, run by a volunteer management committee of seven. Their Management Committee includes people with experience of and commitment to opportunities for disabled people. Together with their key partners, they aim to increase sustained opportunities for disabled people who wish to take part in sport and physical activity, create a seamless pathway from grassroots participation through to elite level competition, and develop a sustainable workforce for disability sport.

Council for Disabled Children
We are an umbrella body for the disabled children’s sector. We operate a number of different networks, programmes and special interest groups that focus on specific aspects of the SEND sector. Each network provides dedicated support and expert advice through a combination of training, resource development and dissemination of best practice.

 

 

Sheffield Smashers Boccia Club

The Sheffield Smashers Boccia Club has been running since November 2011. Boccia is a paralympic sport, a ball and target game similar in style to crown green bowling, though participants are seated. This makes the sport suitable for people with a variety of disabilities, including learning disabilities, cerebral palsy and wheelchair users. The club has over 40 members and regularly have around 20 members per week attending the sessions. Participants have a wide range of disabilities, including autism, hearing, visual and physical impairments and range in age from 5 years to over 40.

We are a partnership of three leading organisations: Childnet InternationalInternet Watch Foundation and SWGfL, with one mission – to promote the safe and responsible use of technology for young people. You will find e-safety tips, advice and resources to help children and young people stay safe on the Internet.
