Bents Green School - Gleadless

At our Gleadless site, we offer a warm, inclusive, and expertly tailored learning environment for students aged 11 to 16 with Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs), primarily supporting Autism and Communication needs.

Our mission is to empower every student to know more, do more, and prepare confidently for adulthood through adaptive teaching, personalised support, and a holistic curriculum.

All students follow the National Curriculum, adapted to their needs and abilities. Each class has its own dedicated space, fostering a calm and focused learning environment. Teaching models vary from one teacher delivering all subjects to specialist teachers in Key Stage 4, ensuring expert instruction tailored to students’ individual learning styles.

Students in Years 10 and 11 work towards formal qualifications ranging from Entry Level Certificates to GCSEs, depending on ability. For more information on the qualifications we offer, please visit our Qualifications page.

We prepare students for further education, apprenticeships, supported internships, and employment through personalised study programmes that include work-based learning opportunities.

For more information on the Teaching and Learning pathways unique to our Gleadless site, please visit our Gleadless Curriculum page.

We allocate dedicated time within the school week to explicitly teach social and emotional learning (SEL) strategies. Our curriculum focuses on:

  • Self-Regulation: Helping students develop techniques to manage their emotions and behaviours effectively.
  • Building Emotional Vocabulary: Expanding students’ ability to recognise, understand, and express their feelings.
  • Social and Relational Skills: Teaching communication, relationship-building, and problem-solving skills essential for positive interactions.

This holistic and evidence-based approach supports students in developing resilience, confidence, and meaningful relationships, creating a safe and nurturing environment where they can thrive both academically and personally.

Our Wednesday Club offers students the chance to explore new interests outside the curriculum. Each week, students select from a rotating cycle of staff-led activities, including:

  • Outdoor Club
  • Cooking (dishes from around the world)
  • Beading and Crafts
  • Relaxation and Yoga
  • Sports (including games from other countries)
  • Spanish
  • Music
  • Sensory Time
  • Art
  • Board Games

This enrichment promotes creativity, social skills, and cultural awareness, enhancing students’ school experience.
